Anybody know what gear I need to have for baseball conditiong and for high school baseball? What should I wear like basketball shorts and a tee-shirt. What size bat should I get. What Type of glove, I know it varies by position but what would be a standard glove for all positions before I get my position. What type of cleats do I need. Do I need to purchase a baseball helmet. I have my protective cup from football so that’s taken care of. What kind of equipment bags and sunglasses if neccessary should I get. If you have any advice you’d like to tell me about conditioning or high school baseball I would appreciate it. Thanks for your answers, and I appreciate your time!!!

Big set of questions – I’ll take them in order

  1.  Do not wear shorts – get yourself a decent pair of baseball pants and long sleave undershirt. Here’s a place to find cheap gear online.
  2. Baseball Express

  3. Bats can be expensive.  If you are a typical high school player you need a 32-33 inch bat that weighs about 30 ounces.  Go to a Sporting Goods store and try them out personally.  They should feel light in your hands. Easton bats are top notch. Click here for products from Easton
  4. Get a general purpose glove unless you know you are going to be a pitcher or a first basemen.  Outfield and pitching gloves are generally larger than infield gloves.  Here’s a great general purpose glove.

  5. Rubber cleats are more all purpose but if you are in senior high you need to get metal cleats. Adidas has a classic look and the lowest prices.
  6. Helmuts will be provided
  7. A cheap equipment bag is needed unless your school or team provides one or orders them for you (Be sure to ask)  Here’s a place to get travel bags-Anaconda Sports Anaconda Sports
  8. Conditioning is key for high school baseball.  You don’t want to be getting in shape when practice starts–you want to be in shape.  Here’s a fitness training video I recommend.
